Meet Annika Roser of Ma Cherie Studios in Brighton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Annika Roser.

Annika, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I got started in boudoir photographer back in college actually. I was majoring in fashion photography at the time, but I got bored of that pretty quickly. A couple of months later I found myself doing more and more lingerie themed shoots, and then even having friends ask me for their photos. After seeing what the experience of the shoot and the images did for their confidence and for their relationships, I was hooked!

When I was 20 I decided to move to Boston, more or less on a whim. I did not know anyone here and really was just moving up here to open my boudoir studio. At the time boudoir was not as popular as it is now, and seeing as I was completely new in this city, it was slow moving at first. There were many times I thought about giving up or getting another job. But, I stuck with it and now eight years later, I am running one of the most sought-after boudoir studios in Massachusetts! The years of struggling and not knowing were so worth it after all 🙂

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not a smooth road! I honestly don’t think anyone starting their own company will ever be able to say that. There are just so many things you don’t know when you start out. So many things that you have to learn the hard way. In the beginning, the business portion of my studio was the hardest.

I was very creative but lacked a lot of business skills. I was not pricing myself properly and therefore was very overworked and stressed. Clients would try to take advantage due to my lack of knowledge and young age. Over time though I learned the business skills needed to succeed, and was able to market myself to my ideal clients.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Ma Cherie Studios – what should we know?
I am the owner and photographer of Ma Cherie Studios, a boudoir studio here in Boston. Boudoir is my specialty and the only service I offer. I shoot women, men, and couples. The thing that I am most proud of with my company is the service and experience I offer to my clients. I have spent a lot of time making sure my studio makes the women and men that come see me feel like supermodels.

I create a custom and personalized experience for each client delving into deep reasons such as why they are doing the shoot, what insecurities they have, and making sure their personality and style shine through. Boudoir is a very personal process, and I take great pride in the fact that I am able to connect with my clients on such an intimate level.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I would say the overall experience and quality of work that clients have come to expect from my studio. I am very harsh and critical of my own work and always strive to do better and learn more, and I think my work strongly reflects that. I don’t really take the easy way out of anything! Clients have also told me that I am very easy to talk to and make them feel comfortable right away, which of course always brings a smile to my face!
