Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniel Melo.
Daniel, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I attended the Greater Lawrence Vocational High School located in Andover, MA in 1996 and graduated from the Carpentry Class with academic & trade honors in 2000.
I always enjoyed building and working with tools. Instead of kid shows, I watched every trade, carpentry and workshop TV show there was such as Hometime, This Old House & The New Yankee Workshop.
My Mother would drop me off at job-sites before I could drive. There I was showing up to weekend side jobs with all my tools, some I didn’t need, at that time building mostly decks, furniture & storage solutions.
Hesser College in Manchester, NH is where I attended to pursue a Business Management degree. I worked full-time mostly as a Store Manager for a cell phone wireless retailer for 11 years in total.
I maintained working side jobs when time allowed. I learned the importance of a good referral and working with integrity from a young age. When I knew that I wanted to dedicate myself to being an entrepreneur, networking would prove to be the key to success.
Thanks to my Family, I grew up very close to my Portuguese culture and traditions. I integrating myself in the Portuguese community by participating in many activities, events, and social organizations. I presided over our local Portuguese Members Club located in Lawrence, MA from 2013 to 2015.
In 2008, my construction jobs were growing and I felt it was time to establish the business and become a licensed General Contractor.
Today, we pride ourselves on finding (DRM) Solutions for our clients. We build and remodel residential and commercial projects. We also maintain commercial apartment complexes, provide design to finish cleaning services all over Southern, NH and throughout Massachusetts.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It was a difficult transition to be the “Boss” when I departed from an 11-year career in Sales Management. Going from 9-5 for so long to set your own schedule took some time.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about DRM Solutions – what should we know?
DRM Solutions prides itself on being a start to finish solution provider. We have an amazing network of tradespeople and subcontractors capable to do the job, done right.
I still wear many hats. I focus on my customers, attending site visits for new & existing customers. I manage the sub-contractors, employees & office. I also love to do the field work when I am needed. I can never just sit behind a desk again.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My parents bought me tools, table saws & air compressors for Christmas & birthdays, they knew I didn’t want video gaming systems.
I owe a lot to my Family. My younger Sister, Debora, especially to my Parents Helio & Teresa Melo. They are my support system, they have made it possible for me to take my steps to where I am and where I want to be.
I also learned a lot from my shop instructors at Greater Lawrence Technical HS. They taught us shop but also taught us life lessons.
