Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristen Martin.
Kristen, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I grew up surrounded by hairdressers. I remember my mom always doing someone’s hair in her kitchen. And I always loved practicing with my friends and family. After graduating high school I went directly to cosmetology school and I never looked back.
After working in a salon for about 4 years I took a leap of faith at the age of 23 and decided to go into business for myself and opened Edge Hair Studio. It was a scary yet exciting time in my life. In December I will be celebrating my 19th year in business and couldn’t picture doing anything else.
Hair has always been one of my passions and what I love to do. Having the ability to make someone feel amazing about themselves just by giving them great hair is the best feeling.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Being a mother and wife isn’t always easy when trying to juggle working behind the chair and running a business. But I’m fortunate to have a supportive husband and family that is always willing to help when the need arises.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Edge Hair Studio – what should we know?
In 1999 when I opened I was fortunate enough to be welcomed with open arms in my community. We are definitely a salon that specializes in hair color and the latest techniques. Always trying the stay up to date with the newest products, trends and taking continuing education classes.
Customer service is a huge part of this industry and we pride ourselves on making our clients happy. Our atmosphere is friendly, welcoming and want our clients to love every time they are in the salon.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I truly have THE BEST co-workers. Without these ladies (my hair tribe) working a long day wouldn’t be half as fun as it is. Not only are they all extremely talented they are genuinely some of the best women I have ever had the pleasure of knowing.
I would also like to thank my mom who has always been one of my biggest supporters, and she has set such an example of what kind, strong, successful women look like. Any success I’ve ever had in my personal and professional life is due to her unwavering love and support.
