Meet Trailblazer Brittany DiCapua

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany DiCapua.

Brittany, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I grew up in a family where ‘being full and eating have nothing in common’. Food was always (and still is) a representation of community and love. When I moved to the city in 2014, I was overwhelmed by Boston’s unique and plentiful food scene. I started The Boston Food Journal in late 2015 simply to share my food-ventures with close friends and family.

Over the course of two (almost three!) years, I transformed The Boston Food Journal into an influential marketing platform leveraged by restaurateurs, businesses and over 26,000 Boston natives. It took hard work, research, failures and successes to get to the point I am at now. My brand represents my authentic personality – this is key.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Of course not. I think the biggest obstacle was overcoming doubt in the early stages. I questioned whether I wanted people to know I started my blog solely because I was afraid of potential embarrassment fueled by a potential failure. It was when I stopped caring about what other people thought that I truly started to succeed in the blogging sphere.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about The Boston Food Journal – what should we know?
I focus on highlighting the Boston food and dining scene – new restaurants, old restaurants, pop-ups, food and beverage brands, mobile applications, etc. I also showcase other passions by incorporating tidbits of fashion and beauty into my content, I think this is something that sets me apart – no one else can be me! Through opening myself up publicly (meaning I show my face in my photos), I believe I have created a niche marketing platform that no one else can replicate!

Which women have inspired you in your life?
I’m lucky to have a super strong female support system in my life. Strong will, determination, devotion and compassion are all traits that both my grandmother and mother possess. They (along with my father) taught my sister and me never to give up and that the world has no limits. Through my family’s strength, I built strength in myself.
