Today we’d like to introduce you to Carla Balzano.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Carla. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My story started out as a dream when I was only 12 years old! At the time, I absolutely loved to play with my mom’s old makeup and wore every color of sparkly eyeshadow imaginable. Fast forward to 2013, when I graduated from The Elizabeth Grady School of Esthetics and passed my State Board to become a licensed esthetician and certified makeup artist. I worked for the next 4 1/2 years under a local makeup artist to perfect my skill, and to overcome quite a few challenges professionally. It certainly was a learning experience! But here I am in 2018, 5 years into the makeup game, and in my first year as a business owner! I’ve known all along that I wanted to be a business owner and now, I get to achieve that dream with Creative Contour by Carla! I have to say that I am loving every minute of this! It truly makes me happy knowing that I can make each and every client feel and look their best once they leave my chair.
Has it been a smooth road?
It definitely has not been a smooth road! Of course with any career path in life, there are obstacles and struggles. In the beginning, the first struggle was finding employment! As a makeup artist, you had to start off by assisting someone. It took me a full 3 months after graduation to finally assist a makeup artist. Once I started, I learned that I needed to practice, practice, practice! Let me tell you, it was HARD in the beginning. I had just turned 21 and had no experience. I cannot tell you how many times I had clients that would truly intimidate me. Then one day, my boss gave me a little pep talk. She told me that I need to trust my instinct and that I am a good makeup artist; and that with practice I would succeed and eventually go out into the world on my own! She told me that was the goal in the first place. Let me tell you all, all it takes is one person to believe in you, even if you don’t believe in yourself yet!
My advice to any and all women: Never lose faith in yourself. Nothing happens overnight and you have to believe that with a little hard work, you can achieve your dreams! After all, I did!
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into Creative Contour by Carla story. Tell us more about the business.
I am a Boston makeup artist who specializes in airbrush makeup application. This is my absolute favorite part of the makeup application process because it has a high-definition finish, without adding multiple layers on the face. Because of how frequently I use the airbrush application, this is what I am now known for! For Creative Contour by Carla, I pride myself on providing excellent customer service and knowledge to create an unforgettable experience for every client! I cater to each and every client that sits in my chair. I think the aspect that sets me apart from others is my bubbly personality and a big laugh! I always like to make my clients feel comfortable in my chair, so we tend to chat about anything from life to work to skincare and makeup! We always have a fun time, so it never feels like work!
