Today we’d like to introduce you to Carrie Wu.
Caroline “Carrie” is the content creator for “Words of Wu,” a lifestyle blog featuring fashion, fitness, food and fun. Wu has always been a fan of social media and was an early adopter when it was first introduced. However, she realized connecting with people through pictures and word characters on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter only went so far. A blog would allow her to express her ideas in more depth, write about her passions and share stories with the world.
Wu is a graduate of the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University where she earned her B.S. in public relations. Wu currently works as the head of Communications & Marketing at Invaleon Solar Technologies, a residential and commercial solar developer and installer in the state of Massachusetts.
Wu is a classically trained ballerina, having danced with Boston Ballet School from childhood through her adolescent years in high school. She credits ballet to having influenced her creative side and love for storytelling through movement and expression. Ballet also taught her excellent time management, discipline and dedication.
Having decided to forgo a professional career as a ballerina, Wu longed to continue performing on the stage. She was introduced to the wonderful world of pageantry and started competing in pageants during college. Her favorite parts of competition are interview and talent, where she can tell her stories through words, movement and artistry.
Carrie has held local, state, national and international titles. Some of her titles include, Teen MA Petite America 2011, Teen Petite World 2011, Teen Petite World 2012, New York Miss Princess America 2012, Miss Cambridge 2013, Top 10 at Miss Massachusetts America 2013, and New England’s Perfect Miss 2016, Mrs. Essex County 2017 and 3rd Runner Up at Mrs. MA United States. Wu continues to have an active role in pageantry as a board member of the Miss Boston Scholarship Organization.
In her spare time, Wu works as a signed lifestyle model and actress for Dynasty Models Inc. She also enjoys taking barre classes at her local Pure Barre studio.
Wu is one busy lady, but always makes time to provide “Words of Wu.”
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Just months after graduating college, Wu lost her mother to a progressive brain disease. It was tough because she had to transform into an adult sooner than she expected. The loss of her mother was very difficult, but she held firm to her mother’s favorite saying “where there’s a will, there’s a way” and pushed forward to excel at her own aspirations and dreams!
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Words of Wu – what should we know?
I love inspiring others! It’s always been my goal to inspire others through my work, my passion and the things I love to do. The best feeling is having people compliment your blog or say that you’ve influenced them in a positive way!
Which women have inspired you in your life?
Eleanor Roosevelt – she’s my favorite 1st lady and also my birthday twin. We share the same birthday, October 11!
I absolutely love her quotes, including this one “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.”
I also am inspired by the singer P!nk. I think she’s such a bad a** and her music is so real. She speaks her mind and doesn’t listen to the haters. Most importantly, she stays true to herself and is teaching her kids to be individuals. Every time she comes to Boston, I make it a priority to see her perform live. If I could sit down with one person and have a heartfelt conversation, it would definitely be P!nk!
