Meet George Dennis of King Shade and Window

Today we’d like to introduce you to George Dennis.

George, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I joined King Shade and Window in 1987 and worked for the business’ founder, Shep Kaufman. Shep had started the business in 1948, after returning from WW2. By 2000, Shep was ready to retire and I was able to purchase the business from him. Through his business model of great service and lowest prices possible for high-quality merchandise, the business has thrived. We specialize in replacement windows, storm windows, storm doors, window treatments and radiator covers. We measure and install everything we sell.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It really was a great good fortune to have had the opportunity to buy an existing business with an established customer base. During economic downturns, business slows, but people still continue to improve their homes. Homeowners’ purchase of Energy Star replacement windows was supported by the federal government with a substantial tax credit, during the last recession, which helped us make it through those tough years. While brick and mortar retail entities struggle to survive in this buy-online market, we are lucky to be a service-based business.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with King Shade and Window – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Good service, fair pricing, and a selection of high-quality products that give good value are really the keys to our success. In addition, our friendly, knowledgeable sales and installation staff make customers very comfortable doing business with us. We are fortunate to be a well-established neighborhood business that has served generations and feel that we really are a part of the community.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We plan to stick with our business model, which seems to be working for us! We do intend to keep up with changes to our industry and products, as well as continue the development of our online marketing efforts. No big changes at this time.
