Today we’d like to introduce you to Amberly Wallace.
Amberly, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started Paperweight as a business in 2016, but its inception really began a few years prior. What began as my creative outlet became so much more. It started as something at the end of the day that I could immerse myself in and express my style. There is something gratifying about beginning a project and having the finished product be beautiful and inspiring. And… sometimes… in the daily grind of your work week, you don’t always get that.
When I started Paperweight I wasn’t sure what to expect. I created a business plan, built a website, began posting photos, and prayed to the social media gods that someone would like my work. The reaction was overwhelming! The love and support I received from family, friends, fellow wedding industry vendors, and followers gave me the encouragement to want Paperweight to be more.
Over the past year, I have plunged (cannonball style) into the wedding world. I have welcomed all the clients I could. Some of my work has been featured and having that recognition propels me forward. Paperweight has become something more than just work or a job, it is my inspiration, come to life, on paper. Every new project is a new and exciting exploit and I welcome the challenge it brings.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I would love to say that I have overcome countless obstacles, but honestly, I simply feel blessed and supported. I have certainly been challenged by one project or another, but the overall temperature has been warm and supporting.
Please tell us about Paperweight.
Paperweight loves the small details! When working with a client, I begin with save the dates and invitations and finish with day of details; which include place cards, menus, small signage and anything else a couple can dream up. All the writing is hand calligraphed by me, owner and ink artisan, Amberly Wallace.
When planning my own wedding, I remember feeling a little overwhelmed at first. Surrounding myself with the right vendors made the whole process so much fun, and I hope to do the same for my couples. I take pride in helping them bring to life the details that really help define their wedding day. I am here to help and will always do my very best to fulfill their requests.
The PW design aesthetic focuses on transforming a couple’s vision into something that is seemingly effortless. After all, the invitation (and/or save the date) is your guests first glimpse into your day, so it should be perfect and uniquely you.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My family home is on the beach in Ipswich, so… naturally… I am a born and bred beach bum. My favorite memories are of spending summer days on a boat or out crabbing off our small dock. I definitely got my creative side from mother. I could usually be found with her at low tide searching for shells, which we would repurpose into some form of art. She has always had such a unique way of seeing potential in the most unlikely things.
