Meet Janice Williams of Art Studio 99

Today we’d like to introduce you to Janice Williams.

Janice, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I am a visual artist as well as a published writer who has spent most of her adult life working in communications in one way or the other. Along with my work experience in communications with corporate organizations and nonprofit organizations, I am an active volunteer activist helping and promoting local arts.

My husband and I co-founded It’s All About Arts television show where we interview artists and art supporters every week. We have done this now for 20 years. We have met and introduced amazing creative talent in the Greater Boston area. We also co-founded the Roslindale Arts Alliance that introduced to our community Roslindale Open Studios now in its 14th year and Roslindale Porch Fest now in its 4th year.

We recently launched a radio show and podcast, “Beyond the Palette” as well as an online art magazine give additional exposure to local arts and culture. I also do freelance work in Public Relations and Social Media Management.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I raised three children while having a full-time career. It is always challenging, as a family brings many responsibilities to each and every day. I am lucky that I have always had my own creativity and my love of art to keep me focused and happy.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Art Studio 99 – what should we know?
My PR business has been very rewarding as I get to help others by promoting their work or events. I love to interview people especially entrepreneurs, write about them and then share through the various media outlets. I have many years of experience working in PR and that has given many contacts and opportunities for my clients.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
As a writer, I learned very early on that listening is the key to getting a good story. People are hungry to tell their stories so listening is a very important skill to have and to give.
