Today we’d like to introduce you to Gina Joubert.
Gina, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
In my blood, my dad was a very successful hairdresser until the mid-1990’s when he had to retire. I always loved doing weddings at the salon. After I had my last daughter, I came up with an idea to do onsite weddings. I think I was the first one to do that in this area. I’ve owed this business for 18 years. I also work at Avenue50 during the week as a Balayage artist! I love to paint hair, I actually have combined both my talents. My best bridal work is when a bride lets color customer her hair with the style that we choose together at the trial. The texture and light that reflects off the hair is purely magical. As a matter of fact, the photo that you choose to highlight on your blog was what happen. The adorable bride came in for a trial and had really super fine bob length hair. She had never had highlights before, so I came up with a vision. I gently highlighted her hair to a soft carmal, put soft romantic curls in to her hair for volume and use a lot of products to give her babyfine hair volume. Her hair stayed perfect for the entire day and night (it was a hot humid day in August).
Even though, I’ve been in the business for many years, I’m all about education. I travel all over the country for certain private classes. I just came back from Charleston, SC. I attended an amazing hands on bridal hair class. I try to travel as much as 2-4 times a year to classes. I absolutely love my business and my customers and brides. I can’t imagine doing anything else in life. Every wedding has its own special place in my heart. Still after 22 years in business, I get up every morning and I can’t wait to go to work. I’m quite a workaholic. I do 4- 11-hour days in the salon, the weekends are wedding only. I limit myself to 40 wedding a year. I encourage bride to book early because I book up quickly. I think, I’m successful because I never think I don’t need to learn. My father always instilled in me, you’re never too good to learn from any class, even if it’s just on technique. It’s good to be humble and kind to each and every person.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Of course there’s struggles always. If I could tell another young hairdresser, I’d be patient. Learn the basics first. Clean partings is key. Go to as many class as you can. I assisted for 2 years for my dad. I did mannequins or my friends to practice on. A lot of young girls get frustrated because they’re not busy right away. You definitely have to put the time and effort in. It takes about 5-7 years to have a full clientele.
What should we know about Gina Joubert Wedding Hair? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Bridal hair and Balayage. I usually do between 5-12 people for wedding parties. I work quickly and efficiently.

I do mentor a young hairdresser in my salon. She is much more talented than I ever was… she is going to be one of the top hairdresser in the area. You also have to build confidence, too. I love helping anyone.
