Meet Amber Auger of Millennial Mentor in Middlesex County

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Auger.

Amber, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My dental story began during science class in the 6th grade. My science teacher was reviewing oral health and at that moment, something stirred inside of me. I decided to become a dentist that day. Despite my desire, my mother’s single parent income, prevented me from being approved for the loans needed to attend dental school. I decided to modify the plan and become a dental hygienist!

The moment I walked into my university (University of New Haven), I saw a photo of a dental hygiene student serving children in an orphanage in Romania. Three years later, I visited this same community and provided dental hygiene preventive services.

I practiced dental hygiene for 5 years full-time in a wide variety of practices from pediatrics to multi-specialty practices. I love working with patients but often found the work environments to be unstructured, unhealthy and unhappy employees.

When a dentist goes to school, they often graduate without having the proper leadership, HR and financial skills to be able properly run a business. Most want to focus on patient care, which is their true gift. I found a love for creating healthy systems in 2016, when I became the Chief of Clinical Technology for Jameson Management, a dental consulting firm. After a change in company structure, I decided to create my own company.

I am passionate about creating a healthy work environment for dental professionals and cohesive collaboration between every team member. This effective communication allows patients to receive the treatment that they need as well as create employees who are invested in their teams. Additionally, I have faced multiple obstacles as someone who is driven and a younger provider. This has instilled a drive and motivation for me to coach teams to respect one another and leverage generational strengths while understanding effective communication.

Has it been a smooth road?
The road to creating this company offered many challenges that have caused me to grow. I have learned that sometimes you feel like you are running in place without getting any traction. It is important to trust the journey, even when you don’t know what lies ahead. Being true to yourself, your vision and most of all, surrounding yourself with the right people helped me to get where I am.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Millennial Mentor story. Tell us more about the business.
I create systems in offices to increase communication and a smoother work environment. I help make peoples jobs easier by giving them the tools to enhance their current roles.

I love the impact that I am able to have on others. I have been in work environments that are frankly toxic because of the lack of leadership. There can be a negative stigma when it comes to the millennia population, it is my mission to help bridge that gap and empower generations to work together.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
In 5-10 years, I see myself continuing to be a technology consultant for multiple companies and coaching dental teams to elevate their patient care.
