Today we’d like to introduce you to Paul Sherbertes.
Paul, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I purchased Impact Performance Training located in Hyannis, MA in Cape Cod back in May 2017 after owning a very successful hockey business for 16 years. Top Shelf Hockey School and the New England Junior Hurricanes became one of the fastest growing development hockey program for boys and girls from the ages of 7 to 18 years of age on the south shore.
During that time, I recommend a few training facilities here on the Cape. Overwhelming the parents and players chose Impact. It wasn’t a surprise because it’s a training facility for athletes and those who want more than your traditional style gym and bring their game to the next-level.
So, when Impact became available and we sold the team portion of the hockey program it was a no brainer.
The ability to combined Top Shelf Hockey School and Impact seemed like a perfect fit.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
After purchasing Impact Performance Training in May, I knew that their would be a few challenges ahead. First one, being letting the members feel comfortable with the ownership change. Fortunately, I was able retain our trainer Gabrielle Jatkola which has made the transition easier.
My initial goal was to establish a membership plan that would cater to most everyone as much as possible and after a few attempts I feel as though, we’ve found a formula that works.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Impact Performance Training – what should we know?
Over the past 8 years, Impact Performance Training has proven its programs are effective. The proof is in the success of our clients.
Our training methods are a little bit more unique than what most people are used to which is what separates us from the ordinary. Instead of traditional personal training or a set class schedule, we have more or less blended the two styles to create what we call “GUIDED” personal training. What this means is, throughout the hours of 6:30am-10:30am and from 2:30pm-6:30pm, you are able to come in at your convenience. A program based around your personal goals and needs will be designed and provided for you on a daily basis along with semi personal attention to assure that you are performing the exercises properly. Throughout the week, your program will include (depending on how many days a week you were looking to train) an upper body day, lower body day and cardio/ agility day. This style of training is able to work for people who are looking to train from one to five days week, making us flexible and efficient.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
The most essential qualities in any business especially here on Cape Cod is consistency, accountability and most of all is caring about your members and their family and friends. Understanding your market and being able to understand members goals is very important. Growing up on the Cape made that very easy.
We always strive to get to know our members. Many many people have said in my hockey schools and teams, “you make it feel like a family”.
That was very important to me when purchasing Impact.
It’s a lot of fun to see the families that vacation or summer on the Cape return after a long winter from where ever they’re from in New England and elsewhere.
We welcome with open arms and play catch up from the winter.
