Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Davis Bush.
Ashley Davis, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I began my journey in 1988 when I lived in NYC and found my career in advertising to be unfulfilling. I spent time soul searching and realized that I was put on this earth to be a psychotherapist. I started social work school that fall and had an MSW and a license to practice by 1990. I have been a psychotherapist ever since — almost 30 years. I have worked in mental health clinics in NYC and I have been in private practice in New Hampshire for the past 20 years. Somewhere along the way, I also was called to write self-help books. I have written/published 7 books in the past 20 years.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Actually, it has been a smooth road. Even detours lead you to where you need to be, I believe.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with TLC Counseling – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I specialized in bereavement work early on, especially after my book, “Transcending Loss” came out in 1997. Over the years, I also added a specialty in working with couples and doing EMDR (a particular type of trauma treatment). People come to me for my many years of experience in the mental health field and also because I’m an author. I am most proud that I get to help people find the strength and peace within themselves.
How do you, personally, define success? What’s your criteria, the markers you’re looking out for, etc?
For me, success is a sense of alignment between purpose, happiness and love (both self love and love of others). It isn’t measured in money or power or book sales, although, those things can be nice. 🙂
