Today we’d like to introduce you to Sean Person.
Sean, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started as a Personal Trainer shortly after college in 2005 with a now out of business Health Club chain Bally Total Fitness. I decided to get into the fitness business because my father passed away my junior year of college of heart disease, his father (my grandfather) also passed away of heart disease when I was just 2 years old. After spending 2 years in charge of the Personal Training departments for 10 clubs for the fitness chain that bought out Bally Total Fitness I decided it was time to work for myself and build a brand I could believe in. At that point myself and my two top managers Ross Hardaway and Vince Brown partnered together to form Always Strong Fitness.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There are a lot of challenges that starting a business brings and we have definitely encountered them all. First and foremost was finding a suitable location. Secondly starting with no money and business credit means that obtaining any financing or loans to get the business off the ground was impossible. That lack of initial funds also leads to other problems like the inability to pay for marketing, build a website, purchase equipment etc.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
We initially started the company around the premise that being strong in both body and mind is the number one quality for everyone to strive for. Physical and emotional strength allow you to overcome all of life’s obstacles and challenges and we work hard to inspire all of our clients to achieve that outcome. We were Personal Trainers first working with our clients on a one on one basis to develop targeted individualized programming to help them meet their goals, but over the course of our 3 years in business we’ve evolved into other service offerings as well. Our Health Coaching program works directly with patients of concierge Primary Care Medical Practices to provide wellness based solutions to improve overall wellbeing. Our Registered Dietitian Lauren Sharifi develops nutritional programming and diets for our Personal Training clients, Health Coaching members as well as our own private clients whom are only looking for nutritional help. We also have a smart phone App that allows us to send workouts directly to our clients for their own personal workouts when they are not meeting with us.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up I was the weird combination of the “dorky athlete”. I spent a lot of time on athletics but also on getting involved in school and community programs and being as friendly as possible with everyone.
