Today we’d like to introduce you to Donna Moore-Wright.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Donna. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started playing around with a DSLR back in 2014 but I wasn’t very serious about it. I shot everything in auto mode and posted the pics on social media. I convinced myself that my iPhone photos were just as good as the ones from my DSLR camera so I put it away and just used my iPhone to take the photos. As time went on, I felt that something was missing in my life. I was working my butt off at my 9-5 only to come home, prepare dinner for the family, then go to bed; same thing everyday! I needed to do something for me; something that I loved, so I decided to dig deep to try to find out what was needed to snap me out of this boring slump. I took an online course called Fierce Clarity and it forced me to look at myself and get a better understanding as to what my true passion was. This course is what made me pick my camera back up and really learn how to use it. Now, I don’t shoot in auto, I shoot everything in manual mode and love it!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Learning photography has been a challenge. There are so many things that you have to remember before taking the shot like, making sure that you’re subject is in focus; is the subject exposed properly? Are they in frame? And then, there’s post processing. I would not let the challenges stop me though. What they did was push me to practice, practice, practice until I got it right and my love for it, keeps growing stronger.
Please tell us about Donna Moore-Wright Photography.
Over the past few years, I have been photographing models, artistic pieces and landscapes, however, as of late, I’ve been doing more and more portrait photography. One of the reasons I enjoy portrait photography is because of the interaction that I have with the subject; it’s been great! These photos seem to stand out the most. I tend to get a positive reaction when people see them. I think it’s because I have a way with making people feel comfortable during the photo shoot so the end results are genuine.
One thing that I am proud of is how far I’ve come on this journey of photography. I couldn’t have done it alone. I’ve run across so many great photographers that were so supportive and they shared some of their experiences with me to help further my growth and I am so thankful for that.
The thing that sets me apart from others is how I interact with people. I’ve always had a focus on people for a good part of my life. All of the jobs that I’ve worked were in customer service. I was also asked to be a greeter at a church because I had a way with making people feel welcome. This has always been one of my strengths and it is a great asset to have as a photographer.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
One of my favorite memories from childhood was when my dad and mom took my sisters and brothers and me out for ice cream. It was a rare occasion back then for us to eat out anywhere so it was special. We were all so excited and the entire family was together.
