Meet Miranda Lynn of MIranda Lynn Hair and Beauty

Today we’d like to introduce you to Miranda Lynn.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I am a licensed hair stylist and makeup artist of 5 years. I provide in salon cuts and colors and specialize in bridal styling and makeup. I graduated from Paul Mitchell the School RI in 2013. I first started out just working in salons and worked under a bridal beauty studio as a freelance artist. I still currently work for that studio but have branched out focusing on my own independent freelance work a little over a year ago. When I was in cosmetology school, I always knew I wanted to specialize in up styling and bridal. What most people don’t know is I actually never wanted to do makeup! I loved painting on my own face but the thought of doing it on others scared me. I was pretty much pushed to do it in school and thrown into it.

After a few faces, I realized I loved it and wanted to also specialize in it. I took the time to branch out and connect with stylists and photographers to start building my portfolio, I was honored to be published in a few magazines including Vogue Italia while creating some amazing images with other creatives such as myself. I’ve learned so much over 5 years- so much trial and error, personal growth, and failure and success. So many talented artists, mentors, and friends I have met along the way that always pushed me to keep going and pursue my passion. Its been such an incredible and rewarding journey. Now, I work by appointment only in the salon and work full time as a traveling freelance artist. I hope to soon teach up styling and bridal based classes to other professionals. I love what I do and am so fortunate to have a career I feel so deeply passionate about.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not, but is it ever? Haha! I’ve had some interesting, to put it nicely, salon experiences along the way. I’ve learned I’m meant to work more independently. I’ve had some humbling experiences and amazing opportunities to grow as an artist. But that’s what its all about! It’s the journey. Everyone wants to just be good right off the bat. But you’ll never be great at something if you don’t have those failing moments. How will you ever learn? I’m still on that journey and probably always will be.

MIranda Lynn Hair and Beauty – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I specialize in hair styling and makeup, specifically bridal. I would like to say I’m known for my light hand to create natural beauty. I’m a firm believer in enhancing, not covering or masking. Makeup to me is meant to make people look and feel like their best selves. I want people to feel comfortable in their hair and makeup. I’m proud that I am a licensed stylist and artist. I’m proud of my formal education and that I didn’t cut corners. I’m proud that I was taken under a wing so young in my career to be shown the proper and professional aspects of this industry. I’m proud that I am a true professional.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I’ve had so many wonderful moments but one that first comes to mine is, I’ve been published in Vogue Italia 4 times! And it couldn’t have happened without the amazing creatives that all contributed in creating those images.

If I had to pick a second, I would say when I took a leap of faith and decided to become completely independent as an artist/stylist. It was an unexpected turn of events that prompted this decision but, I took it and it has been by far the best decision I have ever made. It’s funny how things work out.
