Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa M DeMarco.
Lisa, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I first started in the Esthetic business 20 years ago when I decided to go to Elizabeth Grady School of Esthetics. After graduating from Grady, I worked for their salon on Newbury Street and then decided to work for a friend of mine in Arlington, who owned a Merle Norman. After that, I decided to make a move to Winchester to be a little closer to my home. Finally, I decided to take the plunge and open my own business 13 years ago, which is currently located in Reading.
Without a doubt, Esthetics is my passion. I love every aspect of skin care, ranging from helping the most challenging acne teenager to treating more sensitive mature skin. I take great pride in helping my clients achieve their goals while receiving a treatment, as well as sending them home happy afterwards with the best home care regimen for them.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
For the most part, I would have to say it has been a smooth road. The biggest transition was when I decided to leave my job in Winchester, and take on my role as owner of my Esthetic Salon, which is several towns away from my existing clientele. I was not sure if I had what it takes to have a successful business in this over populated industry. In hindsight, it turned out to be a great decision.
Moving to a new town I knew I would need to build up a clientele, so for my first 3 yrs. in Reading, I rented a very small room in a hair salon. Eventually, I decided I needed more space to showcase my retail products. I also realized I needed a much bigger waiting area, so I took the leap of faith again and moved to my very own space. Now I am confident I have the right amount of space I needed to perform all my services.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Beauty & Beyond Skin Care – what should we know?
I offer a variety of services. For example: Chemical peels, microdermabrasion, waxing, facials and makeup. I also offer private parties for special occasions.
I would have to say, I think I specialize in facials. I get so much satisfaction out of helping people look and feel their best. The best reward any of my clients can give me is when they tell me how amazing they feel after their facial. I think if you were to ask my clients what my specialization is in, they would say my waxing. I am beyond meticulous about hair removal. I spend quality time making sure every last hair is out, and I am a true believer in making the eyebrows as symmetrical as possible.
I think I am most proud of my 5 star rating on Yelp. I am fortunate, that the people who chose to write a review about me and the services I offer, have really helped my business grow.
I believe what sets me apart from others in my industry is that I am still passionate about what I do. I am probably one of the few who can say I really enjoy getting up every day and going to a job I truly love, and for that I consider myself blessed.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Always being professional and true to who you are as a person.
