Today we’d like to introduce you to Orly Khon.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Orly. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
In 2003 I had a background on Graphic design and Second major in Fine Arts and no idea what my next move was going to be. Always eager to work and make sure somehow I am being creative, Together with My Friend Anat, who soon moved out of Boston, we started getting into the event business. Not really sure where it was going to take us as long as we were involved on the creative side of it. From props and favors to invitations and even floral pieces… That is where we started getting excited about and connecting with clients.
I had always loved flower and anything botanical, but had very minimal knowledge about it. I worked in a few small flowers shops for extra cash while in college but was never very involve in any design or major event.
Our first year we did a few large events and got a hang of the hard work flowers are, once I was on my own I decide to give it a real shot and figure out if this was going to be the path for my career. Organically and slowly, I started doing more events, weddings and getting involved in the event industry.
I moved my business from home to a small studio in Allston in which I stayed for about 6 years, then to the South End where I have been for the last 5 years. Since then we have mainly focused on Weddings, events, corporate and residential clients.
Four years ago, a great opportunity came, I partnered with Restoration Hardware, in order to offer more than just furnitures, the idea of lifestyle. We are a boutique within their store in which the idea is to provide the client with a full experience on home decor ending with the final botanical touch, weather is by purchasing some of our collection items that we offer at the boutique or, custom work in which we offer onsite consultations to incorporate plants and florals into the homes or offices as well as maintenance and seasonal plans.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has definitely not been a smooth road.
Success come with a lot of sacrifices, it’s hard work and days can be long. As a floral design you find yourself working at the opposite schedule of everyone else around you. The main struggle being a mom and business owner has always been figuring out and reminding myself how to be present physically and mentally on what I am doing. Weather is while I am home, or while I am at work.
There is always struggles when mistakes, or bad things happen like in any other job, however, as a business owner a big struggle is dealing with the fact that it gets very personal, more than a job, this part of my life and who I am. So, caring too much sometimes becomes the struggle.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I feel successful when I see a reflexion of my (and my team) in the final product. When I see of a project that it’s done, when I think weather I would do it again (even though it was hard) and the answer is yes! Then, I think it is or was worth it and I consider it a success.
I know this might sound cliché but I don’t think I would have found the spot where the company is now without all the difficulties I have had along the way… So, I guess I consider the not so pretty moments a success? In the long term,
