Today we’d like to introduce you to Nick Israel.
Nick, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started writing music at a young age to escape since at the time, I just moved to a new secluded home and felt left out from the world. I was by myself mostly, so I would consume many books and records religiously. Being raised in Haiti, an entertainment career was considered taboo and not well perceived so getting my parents acceptance was near impossible. During my junior High School year, I released a single “Ti Kle” with the late great G. Bobby Bon Flo which garnered national recognition and was being performed through the Caribbean’s. After completing my High School diploma, due to the lack of continuing education, I moved to New York to pursue my dreams of becoming a well-established rapper and audio engineer. Now armed with my degrees from Queensborough and City College, I interned at a few studios then started working freelance as a music engineer. At the time, I began to perform at showcases, parties and showcases throughout Boston, Rhode Island, New York and Connecticut. My poetry, stage presence and unique rapping abilities then gave me recognition in the underground artistic and music scene as well as catching the hears of prominent blogs. With the release of my debut mixtape, Blank Tape and a Caribbean tour in the works for the summer of 2018 with my artist Steves J. Bryan, I’m here to leave a stamp in this industry.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It hasn’t, I was never one to confirm to norms in the first place. When you’re different, people either accept you or try to mold you from their own perspective. I lost friends and friendships over this music, I guess it’s all those emotions and memories that keep me going every day and make me persevere no matter what. Even in the music scene in my country, it wasn’t easy to be accepted since “konpa” was the predominant genre at the time. They looked and still look down on us today but with the rise of social media, it made our voice go louder than any of these other so-called purists. Building a recording studio and artist development firm, weOutThere Entertainment with little knowledge of legal terms and how the money system really works was quite a challenge.
Steady Tek-Nick – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Steady Tek-Nick is the most authentic and well-versed audio engineer and Hip-Hop artist today. His instantly recognizable syrupy voice manifest through dexterous flows and intricate lyrics that touch on many topics including self-doubt, depression to empowerment, self-discovery and downright psychedelic grooves. This is music to be felt here and being Haitian only makes it more poignant. Steady’s imagination and extensive vocabulary opens a world of full self-expression and emotions that color his songs.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
To me, success is when you find your voice and make it available to the whole world. I am a miracle just by being alive and as such I can conceive beauty myself and bring that value to the masses to push forward. You must be able to look at yourself in the mirror and be fully satisfied of the person you are now rather you have flaws to work on and you’re overly confident. It’s being surrounded by love, happiness, pain and seeing all my friends, family set and living good. Success is to become the best version of yourself that you always perceived in your mind.
