Today we’d like to introduce you to Lior Rozhansky.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Lior. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
After graduating college, I took a corporate job as a management consultant. Though I loved the work and didn’t mind the long hours, I quickly realized I need to start investing my money for the long haul. That’s how my journey in the real estate industry began, and within a year, I ended up purchasing my first multi-family investment near Boston. Though many lessons were learned throughout the transaction, one that kept me thinking was the fantastic work of my real estate agent, who on multiple occasions saved my deal from collapsing.
Throughout the next year, I learned first-hand about the incredible power of owning real estate in a market as dynamic as Boston and quickly realized that I wanted to help others go through the same journey successfully. Becoming a real estate agent became the clear choice for me, as I would be able to advise both the first-time home-buyers looking for their first home, or investors looking to expand their portfolio on navigating the Boston market and ensuring their interests are properly represented during a transaction.
So, after a few years in the corporate world, I decided to transition to a career of entrepreneurship to help others achieve what I was able to do. To ensure I provided the highest quality service, I decided to partner with my former agent. Since our inception, we’ve met our goals and helped numerous clients purchase everything from beautiful condos for personal residence to investors looking to buy and sell investment property.
Has it been a smooth road?
The road has been anything but smooth. Even the decision to make the jump from the corporate world into a commission-based job was a huge mental barrier. Not only was I hyper-aware of the financial risks, but my traditional-minded family sent me daily reminders of the risks I was signing up for. Eventually, after careful planning, I made the leap.
Though in my mind my mission was noble, I quickly found that like in many industries, generating clients was not easy (especially given my age and baby face!). I had to quickly learn and experiment with different methods of spreading my mission and my beliefs as an agent. My schedule was (and still is!) rigorous, as I had to allocate time for conducting business as well as constantly educating myself on new channels, technologies, and opportunities.
So, let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Taylor & Lior, Engel & Volkers story. Tell us more about the business.
The initial reason I became a real estate agent is really reflected through my company’s mission. At our core, we really do believe that real estate should be a central component of one’s wealth. We see Boston as one of the most dynamic and stable markets in the United States and the world, which creates a truly unique opportunity for home-owners.
In addition, as part of the Engel & Volkers brand, we’ve expanded our roles beyond the typical real estate agent to a full real estate advisor. Though our clients of course care about the investment aspect of their homes, they also want to make sure that the home matches with their lifestyle. We now take great care to make sure our clients can maximize their homes for increased financial security as well as maximize their exposure to the amazing culture and lifestyle that each Boston neighborhood offers. Thus, we have become unique professionals who are trusted for transaction thoroughness (due diligence, negotiations) as well as lifestyle guidance.
What I’m most proud of our achievements so far has been how we’ve been able to use our specialized knowledge for a breadth of different clients. We’ve helped clients who are just a few years out of college and wanted to purchase real estate (like I did!) to near-retirees who were looking to down-size.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
One question I get asked a lot is whether the role of the real estate advisor will be diminished or even extinct with all the recent technology trends. Though I believe technology will certainly make many parts of the home buying and selling process more efficient, I really don’t see the value of a professional real estate advisor diminishing.
From the transaction standpoint, there are just so many stakeholders and moving parts that the role of a central coordinator and negotiator is required for a deal to happen. To be quite honest, though technology can make the process more efficient, I foresee the number of transactions that occur without an agent to diminish. Simply put, I think more and more people are realizing just how difficult and time-consuming it is to execute a transaction that can impact the financial and emotional well-being of all parties involved.
Though the real estate agent will remain in demand, I do believe that agents who can provide a more turn-key service for their clients will be more in-demand. That’s why I made the transition to Engel & Volker’s, as I wanted to be able to provide high-quality services as well become a trusted point of reference for what it means to own a home in a particular neighborhood.
