Today we’d like to introduce you to Mark MacDonald.
Mark, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
The company was founded in 1979 by 3 original partners, Mark France, Tim O’Neill and Bob Allard. They visited with a newly formed fire apparatus builder out of Ocala, FL named Emergency One and shortly thereafter became the authorized dealer for New England. I began with the company in 1998 as the Sales and Marketing Manager and as the company grew my responsibilities increased. I was the VP of Sales and Marketing for a number of years before taking over as President in July of 2016.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I feel as though it has been a pretty smooth road during my tenure, but the company had been established by the time I came on board in 1998. I was in Jr. High School in Quincy during the early days when the founders really had to work to market the E-One product in the Northeast, as a new business back in 1979 they also had to develop banking relationships, hire and train employees, develop relationships with customers, and develop the product with the manufacturer. There are always going to be challenges and struggles with any business, but it is how you respond to those challenges that define you.
Please tell us about Greenwood Emergency Vehicles.
We are an emergency vehicles sales and service company. That is our niche. We represent 3 manufacturers – Emergency One Fire Apparatus out of Ocala, Florida, Horton Emergency Vehicles out of Grove City, Ohio and Wheeled Coach Industries out of Winter Park, Florida. E-One manufactures custom fire apparatus and Horton and Wheeled Coach manufacture custom ambulances. So, we sell and service emergency vehicles…. That’s it.
I think we are known to most fire departments in New England because we have been around for almost 40 years. We have represented E-One since 1979 and Horton since 2001. We added the Wheeled Coach line in 2016.
I am most proud of the fact that we provide high quality vehicles that assist our first responders in providing emergency services to the public. I am also very proud of the many dedicated employees that we have here at Greenwood whose common goal is to always take care of our customers.
I think what sets us apart is that we only sell and service emergency vehicles, and that we have not strayed from our core competency.
