Today we’d like to introduce you to Steve Sanderson.
Steve, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
RiverWalk Brewing started out of a sub-leased basement space in 2012 with owner Steve Sanderson as the only employee. I would brew, keg, deliver and sell growlers for the first 6 months. Once the brewery moved to a larger, 2,000 sq. ft., space in late 2012 the company began to grow and add employees. Throughout the last five years, RiverWalk has increased distribution throughout Massachusetts and added new beers to the lineup.
In late 2017 an expansion to a 20,000 sq ft. the facility was completed with a new, larger, brewing system, canning line and 3,000 sq ft. taproom with outdoor seating. Throughout this growth, the brewery was guided by the inspiration of the worldly beer culture that we picked up through years of travel, and a commitment to quality and education.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has never been smooth but has always been interesting. There were multiple challenges along the way. We went from essentially homebrewing, to building a brewing system, learning how to distribute, building two brewing facilities and hiring many employees. Throughout this process, we had to find creative ways to grow and finance our operations without large amounts of capital. This question could be answered in book format if you really get the details!
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about RiverWalk Brewing Co. – what should we know?
RiverWalk Brewing is known for its worldly vision of what beer can be. I am very proud of the team that we have assembled and the continued progress that we have made through some fairly tough challenges. We seek to educate and learn with our customers as we travel down a path of discovery.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
We will find a way to succeed and move forward regardless of the obstacles. There have been multiple times when we could have just taken “no” for an answer and been derailed. Every time we have found a way to move forward and thrive.
