Today we’d like to introduce you to Vadim Kotlyar.
Vadim, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I decided to work in shoe repair business like my father, who was the professional shoemaker in Odessa, where I was born and raised. I have spent my childhood at the sewing shoe factory, where my father had been working, and this experience laid the foundation of my future profession.
I began my career in Odessa at the age of 19, working together with my father at the sewing shoe studio. Immigrated to the United States in 1993, I decided to follow my calling and put a goal to find my own business in shoe repair and become famous. Maybe it is hard to believe, but I have brought a lot of implements from Ukraine, which I am still using today.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
After moving to the United States, I was working at my friend’s shoe repair shop. Thanks to this experience, while speaking with the customers, I have been learning English, because I hadn’t spoken English before immigration.
The path was tough, but the friends and family support helped me to move forward to my goals. With time I have bought all necessary equipment and found my own business. In the beginning, after moving to my location at Beacon Hill eighteen years ago, it was not easy to find the customers and compete with the others shoe repair in the city, but the high quality of service and grateful clients have helped me to grow and deserve the respect of my clients today.

The Beacon Hill Shoe Repair offers a full range of repair services, including shoe and boot repair, all leather goods repair, zipper repair and replacement, shoe build up, and bags repair. Our location in the center of Boston is convenient for repeat and new customers. We specialize Design & High-End Shoes Repair, including such brands as Christian Louboutin, Chloe, Manolo Blahnik, Jimmy Choo, Prada, and Valentino.
Among our clients is Law enforcement agency (LEA), that make the orders for police and tactical footwear. For our customers’ convenience, we have introduced a new service of free pickup and drop off from home and office. My customers value Beacon Hill Shoe Repair for the great service and incredible quality and trust us to repair their favorite shoes.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
