Today we’d like to introduce you to Robert Johnson.
Robert, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started off in the construction industry by attending Wentworth Institute of Technology. I majored in Construction Management and began my own construction company in 2016. With just two short years under our belt in the construction field, we have had tremendous growth. We work a lot on our own developments at this point and are building 2 large homes in the North Shore and in a pre-construction phase for an additional 7 unit development.
We just wrapped up a 4 unit condo development in the city of Haverhill. We strive to continue to grow and at the age of 28 ambitiously investing in myself and other areas. I currently am an owner of Deans House Sober Living which is sober living homes that cater to individuals and take them through the process of the 12 steps of recovery. Entrepreneurship has always been a passion and I will continue to expand in the industry I am in, but also seek opportunities in other sectors.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, any time you are business there is always going to bumps in the road. It is important to keep a positive perspective and look for the best most efficient outcomes. As a developer we face hardships in New England when it comes to the weather, at this point, we are delayed due to snow and freeze. As an owner of a sober living house, we are always met with the skepticism and the lack of understanding individuals have about the issues at hand. On a daily basis as a young entrepreneur, I am always there to put out issues and find the best processes and methods to make things go smoother.
Please tell us about Johnson Construction.
As a construction company, we make a magnitude of different projects on, both residentially and commercially. We specialize at this point in building homes from ground up and leaving our footprint in the communities we work in. As a company, I am most proud of our growth. We have built such good relationships with financial institutes who trust us and our processes to have success.
As a 28-year-old, I started this from scratch and began building capital from residential jobs we did till I had the means of funding larger development projects. I think what sets us apart from a lot of the people in this industry is that we operate on both sides of the fence, one as a developer, but also the builder. It actually is interesting to see because we attack each side to determine our most cost-effective ways and what makes sense as two separate entities.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Some of my best childhood memories were the skateboarding around town. I grew up in a small town and as a kid, skateboarding was the biggest hit. It is tough to nail down one particular day because they were all amazing on their own. We would skateboard from morning to night and never wanting to take a break. Those were some of the best days for me, too young to know what life really has to throw at you.
