Meet MyLinh Nguyen of Gloss in Melrose

Today we’d like to introduce you to MyLinh Nguyen.

MyLinh, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Since I was elven years old, I would always hang around my mother nails parlor. I would help her clean the pedicure tubs, pick up the phone, remove nail polish when she’s behind schedule. It was always my “happy place”. I decided to obtain my manicurist license at sixteen years old and continue to make nails my passion to this day. After I graduated from Regis College in 2008 in Business Management, I decided to take a few years off from doing nails to reach for my dream of working in the corporate world. After four years of climbing that corporate ladder, I decided that it wasn’t right for me. I was never happy nor interested in the field I was doing. At this moment, my fiancé (now husband) decided to take the biggest risk of our life. We wanted to open a unique nail parlor like no other in our area. Having minor in biology degree I made hygiene and sanitation my priority. With the help of Choi and Shine Architects, Gloss was introduce to Melrose, MA in spring of 2011. We have been open for six years, and every day I still hold the memory of how far we have come. My search for my dream job ended with me being in my “happy place” everyday here at Gloss.

Has it been a smooth road?
The hardest part of opening Gloss was the construction and architecture process. Due to our unique design and layout, it took over eight months to construct Gloss. Just like any new business, there were a few bumps and holes along the road, but with our strong work ethic and team player spirit we were able to overcome it all.

Gloss is proud to uphold a clean and sterilize environment. We offer a pure and refreshing ambience free of chemical fumes from artificial nails. Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I feel proud that Gloss is located in Melrose, Massachusetts. It’s is definitely a great location for a business like ours to be here. Although, with numerous of competition on every corner, we stand out like a “special” item on a menu. Melrose is a great diverse community and we were welcome warmly by the residents and all surrounding areas.
