Today we’d like to introduce you to Denise Santini.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Cafe Gelato is the Brain-Child of my husband, Giancarlo Baldini and Daniele Buzza. My husband and myself have been operating a take-out restaurant in Boston’s Financial District for 7 years. A few years ago, Giancarlo connected with Daniele in hopes of creating a partnership. There dream was to open a Gelateria. They felt that although Boston had many options, it was lacking traditional Italian Gelato.
From there, the ball was set in motion and Daniele began refining his skills through various courses and start up in Europe. When the time came he came to the US and started looking for a location. We all felt that Quincy was the perfect place to begin our Gelato journey.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
New ventures always have there hiccups. Much planning and pounding the pavement for the correct location took a bit. When that was settled it was time to put our nose to the ground. With good old fashion elbow grease anything can get done.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Cafe Gelato – what should we know?
Our gelato in made in house by us. There is no middle man. All of the product have been chosen and tested by Daniele himself. We are very proud of our product. There are many imitations around. No one can beat our authenticity. Both Giancarlo and Daniele are from Italy.
We make gelato cakes, cheese cakes, tiramisu and canolli.
We are not only a dessert place. We have artisan sandwiches and salads and serve Illy coffee. All our products are fresh and made with the best ingredients available.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
We have been fortunate enough to have Francesco Palmieri, Gelato Master from Italy, mentor us. Palmieri is well know in Europe for his innovative approach and cutting edge recipes. He has come to our location twice.
Special thanks need to go out to Kim Vu, Daniele’s wife and of course all or our family who has supported us.
