Meet Virginia Orlando and Candace Atchue of Seed to Stem in Worcester

Today we’d like to introduce you to Virginia Orlando and Candace Atchue.

Seed to stem found its beginnings in 2011 when two best friends started making terrariums for fun in their spare time. Soon after they realized they had a talent for creating these tiny worlds and started bringing their work to local craft shows where they were received with enthusiasm. Virginia grew up in her mother’s flower shop, and Candace worked at the shop within the greenhouses, where a love for plants developed. With the success of the craft shows, they began incorporating natural items such as skulls and crystals, antiques, and handmade goods into their offerings. Quickly they realized that they needed a brick and mortar store to house their goods and Seed to Stem. Both Virginia and Candace have a love for house-plants, nature, interior design, travel, antiques, and merchandising.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Our road has not always been smooth. We started Seed to Stem out of pocket while Virginia was working as a veterinary technician and Candace was working as an executive assistant at a very large company. It was a struggle working “day-jobs” while trying to build a business, as well as starting with no real working capitol.

Please tell us about Seed to Stem.

We are set apart from other stores as we carry so many unique items. We also are known for our displays and merchandising. Our shop feels more like a home than a store at times. We have developed great relationships with our loyal clients and are so thankful for all of the support we have been shown.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If we had to start over we may have tried to start with the more working capitol.
