Today we’d like to introduce you to Helena Grant.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
While I was celebrating the launch of H. Grant Style in April of 2015 with champagne, a male-model bartender and a killer DJ, my friends and following feted that I was finally melding my passion for clothing with a lifelong talent for understanding for how to wear it. One friend, in particular, had tapped into my capabilities as a personal stylist, which were so innate that they were unknown to me. She insisted that I had an obligation to help other women dress authentically the same way I had aided her in transforming from a Hilary Clinton lookalike to an edgier but polished version of herself. After 6 years of creating my own line of handbags and moonlighting as a commercial prop and wardrobe stylist, I was ready for a professional shift so her encouragement was timely.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Running my own business has been a lot of fun despite occasional bumps. I feel really lucky because my initial success was fueled by the work I had done for my friend; everyone wanted to know how she had accomplished such an intriguing change. With her as my billboard, a plethora of referrals ensued and established an ideal foundation to develop my methodology. Interestingly, my biggest struggles have been attributed to growth.
When I initially launched H.Grant Style I wanted to create an online course but the timing wasn’t right. This past spring, I felt compelled to reach a broader audience and the learning curve has been incredibly steep, to say the least. But, it’s been an amazing experience to write and launch BE YOUR OWN STYLIST and it means I can help even more women feel powerful and confident in their clothes. Alleviating the struggle so many women face in getting dressed propels me even if it forces me out of my comfort zone.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the H.Grant Style story. Tell us more about the business.
H.Grant Style helps women align their personal and professional brands making it easy for them to get dressed every day. I am best known for both my ideation and positivity and also for my decisiveness – I focus on the immediate application for a garment and how it fits into the context of someone’s wardrobe. So many of us convince ourselves we should keep or purchase something that doesn’t “fit” in any respect which results in too many undesirable options.
It can be hard for people to let go and my proudest moments come from hearing women tell me that my methods have enabled them to dress for themselves and that they have never felt better personally and found professional success as a result of our work together. This result, coupled with wanting my clients to NOT need me but rather make good style decisions based on our work together, sets me apart from my competition. By working with me, women gain a resolute sense of what looks good on them and why which enables them to make the best possible selections to support their life and lifestyle. I want women to dress intuitively, fluidly and without feeling judged by their own closets.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
While I love to say I am lucky, I think that good or bad luck is all about how you look at it. Even “bad” luck usually leads somewhere good! Either way, I know I am incredibly fortunate to have an amazing support system – people who help me gain perspective, offer opportunities and support me in my efforts. I always think I can do everything on my own but where would any of us be without an outside opinion?
