Meet Crystal Caruso of La Bella Hair Salon in Newton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Crystal Caruso.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Crystal. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Ever since I was a little girl I always had a passion for hair. I knew one day I wanted to own my own hair salon in the city I grew up in, Newton. Being the oldest of five children I was always very independent and determined. I come from a family with amazing work ethic and knew that in order to be successful I had to put in the time and work. I attended Lasell College for Business Management then attended and graduated from Blaine Beauty Career School in Framingham about 12 years ago. After working in several salons I finally found the perfect spot for the boutique style salon I had always envisioned. With the help, support, and encouragement from my now husband, La Bella Hair Salon was created. April 2018 will be five years in business and it has been a dream come true. We have loyal clients and new clients visiting us every day. The staff feels more like a family and we provide a comfortable and welcoming environment for everyone who visits.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I have to say for the most part my journey has been a positive one. As with any business, there are going to be some bumps in the road but I take them as learning experiences. If I had to name a challenge I would say balance. Learning to balance all the work of running the salon and working behind the chair every day and still have a personal life was hard. Once I found a good balance everything was that much better.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about La Bella Hair Salon – what should we know?
We are a four-station boutique salon specializing in only hair services. We specialize in color, cutting, and styling. Our most requested service right now is definitely balayage and we all LOVE it! With it being a free hand color technique, it really gives us the ability to create custom colors that best suit each client. My stylists and I continue to take classes regularly to keep up with trends and new techniques. I am most proud of the growth the salon has had since the beginning and the strong staff we have. I believe what sets us apart from the rest is the atmosphere we have created in the salon.

We truly enjoy working together, we have relationships with each other’s clients and it’s such a fun and chill environment. I’ve worked in salons where I was afraid to do something incorrectly or a salon where I was unable to grow as a stylist. I wanted to make sure my team never felt like they couldn’t ask each other for advice or they wouldn’t advance in their career. I strongly believe the right group of talented, passionate stylists is what makes a salon successful.

My husband definitely deserves a lot of credit. He has been by my side since the beginning of La Bella and I am so thankful for all the hard work he put into helping me build my dream. My family has also been supportive of me making my longtime dream a reality. I’m lucky to have the support team I have.
