Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason Stenson.
Jason, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Raymond Stenson Sr. founded Country Ski & Sport in 1970 in Hanson, Massachusetts. Family owned and operated since our inception, we have since grown to three stores, with our Quincy store opening in 1977 and Westwood in 2010. Customers can also find us as the exclusive retailer for the East Coast’s largest Ski and Snowboard Expo held every November at the Seaport World Trade Center in Boston, Massachusetts.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Our most difficult challenge has been operating a ski & snowboard business far away from the popular ski resorts in New Hampshire, Vermont, and Maine. Fortunately, our customers have learned that shopping with Country Ski means choosing equipment based off of professional advice from expert skiers and riders coupled with discounts on the biggest name brands in the ski industry.
Country Ski & Sport – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Country Ski offers local Massachusetts skiers and riders the opportunity to shop locally for all of their ski and snowboard gear, from equipment to apparel, with the confidence of finding the right equipment at discounted prices. Apart from equipment sales, we also offer anything related to equipment maintenance, including binding mounts, ski tune-ups, custom boot fitting, and more. We pride ourselves on being a 3rd generation family business and continue to deliver that friendly small business experience to our customers.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Successfully operating the retail portion of the Boston Ski & Snowboard Expo for the past two years has been something we are very proud of. Many of our friends and family members, as well as past and present Country Ski employees, all come together as one big team to help with the 4-day event.
