Today we’d like to introduce you to April LaRoche.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’ve always adored taking photos, being able to document life exactly how it was at that single moment, it’s a rush. It wasn’t until a got a push from a fellow photographer that I really felt that i’d be crazy if I didn’t pursue this dream.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s definitely a struggle getting your name out there, and I did start out forcing all my family and friends into letting my take their photos. haha. But once people saw what I was capable of, the word started to spread, and it’s been an adventure ever since!
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Alba Lumos Photography – what should we know?
Alba Lumos specializes in lifestyle photography. Super posed, awkward photos are not my favorite, so I don’t put my clients in that situation. I mean, I’ll definitely take some semi-posed shots or we can try something out they saw on Pinterest, but generally the session is just clients hanging out! I love that we are ever growing and getting better. I recently recruited my girlfriend Grady Savage to be a second shooter, she’s doing AMAZINGLY and really spreading her wings. I think we are different from other photographers in the fact that we make our sessions so laid back, we want everyone to feel as comfortable as possible, that gives us the best shots!
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Definitely being able to think on your feet and roll with the punches. I never really know what to expect at each session, but once I’m there and getting the feel for the client and environment, the magic happens! Perfect tree for climbing? Let’s do it! Warm water and willing clients?! Absolutely! Wildflowers made into bouquets? Yes please!
