Meet William Dunning of OnCampus Advertising in North Station

Today we’d like to introduce you to William Dunning.

OnCampus Advertising got its start in 2003, founded by partners William and David Page. Their first break came with an opportunity to launch an advertising program for the Longwood Medical Area’s transit system. Using the Longwood program as a model, OnCampus expanded into college campuses, partnering with campus transit systems to sell advertising on campuses. These relationships introduced OnCampus to the larger market for college media and spurred on the company to develop other forms of media targeting college students.

Today, OnCampus works with advertisers ranging from small start-ups to Microsoft, AT&T Wireless and Amazon, helping them develop and execute media and marketing campaigns that engage college students. Services range from out-of-home displays, including campus transit, to digital and social media strategies, brand ambassadors, advertising in college newspapers, email and more. Along the way, OnCampus grew out of its third-floor office in a Brookline home and into offices across four cities with headquarters in Boston’s North Station area. The company also developed a seasoned staff of media buyers and sales reps that have an average tenure of over 5 years with the company,

OnCampus prides itself on its employee and client retention and the ability to develop new and effective strategies to reach the constantly changing college market. If the next decade is anything like the last, they are in for a great ride.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Hiring is a consistent challenge. As a small firm, finding people that mesh with our tight culture and enjoy the work is a must. We work hard at fostering a positive work environment and we realize and value the importance of carefully hiring staff. The result has been slow, but has given us and low turnover an experienced and cohesive team of professionals.

Advertisers and their agencies engage OnCampus Advertising to plan and execute custom media and marketing campaigns that engage and connect with college students. We have developed proprietary media technology and networks to help our clients quickly reach students across the U.S. and Canada.
