Meet Walter Hubley of The Woodward School in Quincy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Walter Hubley, Head of School at The Woodward School. Walter joined the Woodward School in July of 2016, shortly after his daughter graduated from Woodward in May of 2016.

The Woodward School is an independent day school educating girls in grades 6 – 12 since 1894. Founded by Dr. Ebenezer Woodward, cousin of President John Adams. Founded as the sister school to the all-boys school opened by President John Adams, the Woodward School has been educating girls about business and civics 30 years before women had the right to vote.

Woodward has continued to be a leader in girls education ever since its founding, today offering progressive yoga/meditation/mindfulness training, computer programming, robotics, engineering education along-side its classical education that promotes critical thinking skills.

Woodward is a diverse community serving students in Quincy, Boston, 20 other south shore communities and 8 % of our students are from China/Korea/Japan.

Has it been a smooth road?
As education evolved over time (the past 123 years) Woodward has remained true to its founding mission, but with evolving implementations as times changes. While the choice for independent education has declined across the US, Woodward has evolved and innovated to remain as relevant today as it did upon its opening in its original wooden school building that welcomed the first class of seven teachers and seventy-six students, on April 10, 1894. This challenge continues as the educational landscape changes over time.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Woodward offers a single gender education featuring a classical education, evolving relevant program accompaniments, and an exciting athletic program.

10: 1 Teacher-student ratio makes for an individualized educational experience for its students. Woodward has provided a high-quality education for the past 123 years, evolving to meet today’s needs while remaining true to our mission and core values.

Woodward’s commitment to the arts that is second to none, even at a time when arts programs become more and more limited at other schools. We see this as a strong differentiator between Woodward and other schools.
