Meet Angela Bell of Angela Bell Acupuncture in Cambridge Fresh Pond

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Bell.

Thanks for sharing your story with us. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I enrolled in Acupuncture school here in Massachusetts after quitting my job in corporate finance. I always knew my life in the corporate world would be short lived but I wasn’t sure exactly what I would do instead. It finally occurred to me that I could combine my passion for entrepreneurialism and health and wellness, by becoming an acupuncturist. Once I had that realization, I quickly took the steps to enroll in acupuncture school. Every day I was at NESA (New England School of Acupuncture) confirmed that it was the exact right path for me. While I was in school, I knew that I wanted to specialize in Women’s Health. I had struggled with Endometriosis my whole life and was fascinated with the idea that we could improve our health and treat underlying conditions with more natural methods.

My very first patient turned out to be a fertility patient. I was hooked! From that moment on I dove into learning as much as I possibly could about women’s health, fertility and pregnancy. Since graduating from The New England School of Acupuncture in 2008 I have immersed myself in the fertility and birth communities surrounding Boston and have been dedicated to continued growth and learning within my specialty. Over the years I have had the opportunity to study with and learn from some of top acupuncture experts in women’s health, pregnancy and fertility. This past year I flew to Vancouver BC to attend the annual Integrative Fertility Symposium and meet and learn from experts such as Debra Betts, Randine Lewis, Jani White, Lee Hullender Rubin and Brandon Horn.

In 2016 I became a board member at Resolve New England, a non-profit organization infertility support, education and advocacy. It’s been a wonderful opportunity to continue supporting women and couples struggling to build their families, outside of the treatment room. It has also allowed me to build relationships with other local fertility related providers in a way that helps me better serve and support my patients.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Being an entrepreneur is not always easy but I wouldn’t change a thing!

Though I have always seen steady growth, my practice didn’t always expand at the rate I would have liked. The most important factor I have found in the strength and growth of my practice has always been linked to my confidence and belief in myself. It took me a while to confidently put myself out there and speak my truth. Once I had the experience and courage to do that, everything came together for me.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Angela Bell Acupuncture story. Tell us more about the business.
I am an acupuncturist and hormonal health expert, helping people who are struggling to conceive, looking to maintain a healthy pregnancy and/or need to re-balance hormones to feel better. Through my expertise in acupuncture, nutraceuticals/Chinese Herbs and nutrition, I’m here to show women how to get healthy – creating customized protocols and providing inspiration every step of the way. I have a private practice, Angela Bell Acupuncture in Cambridge, MA and have been in business since 2008. I recently hired a wonderful associate, Heather Smid, L.Ac. who will be helping me support patients as my practice grows. I couldn’t be more excited to have her join my practice.

I am most proud of the level of care I provide my patients.

Through my dedication to the field of acupuncture and fertility over the years, I have come to truly understand what women and couples experience and need to best support them. I typically use Basal Body Temperature Charting and traditional Chinese Medicine means of diagnosing in combination with Western Medicine testing and blood chemistry results to analyze each woman’s state of health. With that information, I’m able to thoroughly evaluate a woman’s health and create a comprehensive plan of action to help her rebalance hormones, maintain a healthy pregnancy or get pregnant. I take all of the guess work away and create a highly individualized protocol to best support their hormonal heal, pregnancy and/or fertility. Women no longer need to Google to find the best supplements or herbs, I’ve done all of that work for them. Because I have specialized in fertility, pregnancy and women’s health from the very beginning of my career, I believe I have been able to develop a high level of comprehensive care and knowledge that sets me apart from others.

I am also known for my work pregnant women and especially with breech babies. I have worked with women with breech babies extensively in my practice. It’s something that I have always had a particular interest in. Because of that, I have studied, researched and read everything there is about breech presentations and have developed both a detailed in office protocol as well as a guide for women to take home so they know how to do everything they can to provide their baby with the best possible opportunity to turn head down. My approach to supporting breech babies has a high success rate and helps empower women throughout their journey to motherhood.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I have been extremely lucky to live in and work in a community filled with amazing practitioners in regards to acupuncture/Chinese Medicine, birth professionals as well as fertility specialists. The greater Boston area is filled with people who are interested in and dedicated to their health. I’m so lucky to be part of this community and to have patients in my practice who value natural medicine, engage in treatment and seek out alternative medicines as a regular part of their self-care.
