Today we’d like to introduce you to Leah Karpelson.
Leah, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I always knew I wanted to be my own boss, but in 2004 I developed a severe anxiety problem which prevented me from being able to leave the house for a year and a half. Finally, a friend of mine couldn’t take it anymore and dragged me into his car while I was kicking and crying. He drove me to his acupuncturist, who immediately treated me. That evening I was able to go out to a restaurant with friends, which would never have happened without the acupuncture. I continued to see the acupuncturist on a regular basis for half a year and felt better and better with each treatment. Once I was completely anxiety free, I knew that I wanted to do the same for other people, so I went to acupuncture school right away. With my background in accounting and my new acupuncture expertise, I was able to start my own practice right away after graduation.
Has it been a smooth road?
After opening my practice, it grew at a very steady rate. A few years later, I decided to grow my family. Once I had my son, balancing my ‘mom’ role and my acupuncturist role was a learning experience. I had to change around my office hours so that I could feel that both my practice and my son had they attention they required.
