Meet Wayne Potash of Music Fun in Boston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Wayne Potash.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Wayne. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
After graduating from Berklee College of Music I worked in all sorts of music groups including rock and roll bands, blues bands, comedy troupes, wedding bands, bluegrass bands, and folk groups. I also worked in recording studios and taught guitar lessons to all ages. I was unexpectedly asked to fill in for a party at a preschool and was soon after hired by the director to sing for the children every week. More schools hired me and I began playing shows for families with young children and recorded a number of albums. My eighth album, Rock & Roll Party, comes out on April 1. I play solo shows and have a wonderful 5-piece band. We love playing at festivals and local venues like Club Passim and The Coolidge Corner Theatre.

Has it been a smooth road?
Working with children and families is wonderful. When I first switched over from playing bars, the kids reminded me of enthusiastic groups of adults we had performed for. Learning to listen, and being flexible and laid back for my clients has been the most important thing that I’ve learned. I know it sounds like a cliché but it’s not so much about them hiring me, rather more about what I can bring to them.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Music Fun – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We try to provide the best music possible for families with kids. Being a professional musician in a field dominated by music teachers and performers who are not very good musicians is where my strength lies. I’m often told by families that see us perform or buy our recordings that the adults enjoy the music as much as the children do. This is a huge compliment.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Boston provides the most wonderful venues to play in. There are so many fantastic schools and day care centers with staffs that strive to give children every opportunity to learn and thrive. Examples of empathy and inclusion are all over Boston. Our city works together to help others and teaches children to respect others.

I wish food insecurity wasn’t an issue for parts of our community, but I’m inspired that many organizations are working to help those in need.
