Today we’d like to introduce you to Sharicka Washington.
Sharicka, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
After graduating from Institute of Skin Science as a Licensed Esthetician, I gained experience in Florida working and training with various salons, spas, and skincare and make-up companies. While loving my experience and all of my clients, I decided to switch gears in my career path and focus on education. Institute of Skin Science has always held a special place in my heart, and I was happy to accept a position at my former school as an Esthetics Instructor. My job title quickly expanded to Director, and eventually I took over as owner of the company two years ago. I have made some exciting expansions while still maintaining the integrity of New Hampshire’s first licensed Esthetics School.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
This is definitely not an easy job, but the challenge and tremendous responsibility of this journey sustains my motivation. Keeping existing clients happy under new ownership while expanding and rebranding is a consistent challenge. Implementing new ideas may not always turn out as expected, but every “bump” in the road is exciting and absolutely worth it.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Institute of Skin Science is a private Esthetics School. We are most known for our Esthetics Program, and we also offer post-graduate training programs for licensed beauty professionals. Institute of Skin Science is partnered with Xtreme Lashes and is New England’s first Make-up Designory Partner School.
Our Student Clinic offers a vide variety of treatments in a clean, professional environment where Estheticians-in-training can practice their skills in a supervised setting. Treatments include customized facials, chemical peels, microdermabrasion, eyelash and eyebrow tinting, eyelash lifting, facial and body waxing, make-up application, and more.
What were you like growing up?
As a kid I would march to the beat of my own drum, and that has remained the same to this day. I loved nature and animals, and I have always been very artistic. When I was as young as seven years old, I was applying facial masques and make-up to my friends and older relatives. I loved making regimens and concoctions with beauty products and I also had a lot of science kits and encyclopedias. It’s funny to think that everything I loved as a kid is what I get to do as my job every day.
