Today we’d like to introduce you to Bonnie Matross.
Bonnie, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I began my Massage Therapy career at a health club in Needham Center. A few years after I joined the staff, the club closed unexpectedly, and I needed to find a place to bring my client base and small staff. After “shopping around” various other gyms and health settings, I wasn’t convinced that joining another entity was the right decision, and decided to open a “temporary” office to see clients and “figure out the rest later”.
Apparently, it was the right decision, because we are nine years and 15 staff members later, business is booming and we are loving being a part of the Metro west health care community!
Has it been a smooth road?
Learning to run a business without a Business Management degree has had its challenges, but the combination of my college degrees and previous career/job responsibilities helped. I worked in non-profit prior to becoming a massage therapist, so I had some experience with bookkeeping, human resources, marketing/advertising, product management, and sales. And, I think it’s incredibly helpful to also practice the service your business provides – I know what my staff’s needs are, and I try to take care of them as best I can.
There are always struggles; that’s how growth occurs, but overall, it’s been a very organic process!
We’d love to hear more about your business.
B In Touch Massage Therapy is a therapeutic massage practice; we specialize in injury rehab/prevention, palliative care, stress management, and sports massage. Our therapists have an incredibly wide variety of specialties, ranging from the relaxing side of things (Swedish Massage, Craniosacral, Hot Stone treatments) to massages for athletes (Active Isolated Stretching/AIS, Sports Massage, Kinesio Taping, Deep Tissue), to the much sought-after Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Therapy (we’re one of the few practices around who offer it!).
Our practice is incredibly flexible – we’re open every day, 8:00 AM to 8:30 PM (Sundays 9:00-6:oo, and we offer massages in 15-minute durations – from a 15-minute chair massage all the way up to a 90-minute table massage. Between our hours, treatment options, and durations, there is something for everyone seeking massage!
Plus – we are the full session HANDS ON. If you book a 60-minute massage, you get a 60-minute massage! That doesn’t include the “before” and “after” stuff. 🙂
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
The Boston area has been a fantastic place to start a Massage Therapy practice. It’s an exploding field in and of itself, but generally, people are very open-minded and curious about what therapeutic massage can offer.
