Today we’d like to introduce you to Scott Wellington.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My grandparents started the campground in 1961. It started with 10 campsites and grew to 70 when my father took over. When he passed away in 2010, two of my brothers and I joined my mother to operate the campground, we cleaned up and updated the electrical systems to support the new campers and RV available today. We cleaned up the sites and added amenities to make a modern campground. We offer cable on each site, Wi-Fi and free canoe and kayak rentals.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
When we first took over the campground, we did not know how to do the water testing that was required by the state. We took some classes and got it right the next time. The next year the septic system failed and we had to replace it. We learned quickly what needed to be done.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Wellington Camping Park story. Tell us more about the business.
We offer peace and quiet, large wooded campsites along the wild Lamprey River, clean restrooms and showers for family and friends to enjoy.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I think of luck as appreciating the good and bad that comes along, we learn a lot from both. We have had great people help us along the way. They seem to come to us when we need them the most, in that regard we have been very lucky. We truly appreciate all the work and friendship they gave us.
