Meet Alex Morena and Dave Smith of Smith & Sons Machine

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Morena and Dave Smith.

Alex and Dave, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Smith & Sons Machine is a Machine Shop located in Boston. In addition to machining, we provide certified welding services, laser alignments, in-shop and on-site mechanical repairs since 1927. My cousin Dave Smith and I purchased the business in July 2016 making us the 4th Generation owners of this family-operated company. Dave & I worked outside our family’s business at various times but never lost our passion for machining. When the opportunity to purchase the shop became available, we both knew it was the right time to return to our family roots.

Has it been a smooth road?
Our transition has been a relatively smooth road. We’ll admit, one interesting element we’ve faced is adapting to our administrative roles. We’ve learned really quickly why the term “The Buck Stops Here” was coined. Understanding our responsibilities as owners and to put in place all the moving pieces required in operating a small business has been a great learning opportunity. The best part about having a partner is that Dave & I make all our business decisions together & understand the importance of us being a cohesive unit. We are great friends and have a tremendous amount of respect for each other.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
We are both experienced machinists who are dedicated to providing comprehensive knowledge, exceptional service for the most value and innovation for your money. The experienced technicians at Smith & Sons Machine Inc. have the skills and the experience to get the job done right the first time. Smith & Sons Machine Inc. specializes in all facets of elevator repair as well as the custom fabrication of obsolete components. Our expertise and experience ensure our customers’ expectations and all government oversight specifications are met. Contact us for emergency repairs, replacement parts, and custom fabrication of obsolete components.

What has been the proudest moment of your career so far?
The proudest moment of our career would have to be the overwhelming amount of support and enthusiasm we received from our customers & vendors. We are proud to continue the legacy of the Smith Family as we celebrate our 90th anniversary.

I’m wondering if this is the same Smith & Sons that was started by Axel Smith in Cambridge late 1800’s.
