Racepoint Global is a new breed of an integrated marketing company that combines the most powerful aspects of public relations, public affairs, advertising and social to deliver breakthrough results for organizations ranging from Global 50 corporations to the hottest tech and healthcare startups, to governments and NGOs. The company, which was founded by public relations legend Larry Weber, focuses on understanding how individuals prefer to consume information and delivers custom-tailored campaigns that feature visual and written content to reflect these preferences.
Larry chose long-time confidante Peter – a former owner of an integrated advertising agency, with deep knowledge of integrated services – to bring his vision of the new brand of communications to life. He leveraged their shared theory of social media as the connective tissue of all communications – the thing that made advertising, public relations, public affairs and strategy a single thing – and built an offer to reflect that vision.
Essential to the process was selecting a group of veteran leaders from each industry and working with them on the kind of “creative destruction” that underpins all breakthrough innovation. Larry and Peter handpicked a team of public relations, public affairs, advertising and social veterans and demanded they leave all traditional thinking at the door. Together this team, which comprises one of the most effective teams in the industry for delivering results and above-norm profits, created the integrated offer that defines Racepoint Global.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Our agency faces the same challenges many others do. There is a demand for a value that is so obsessive that it’s cutting into the capacity of the industry to do its job well. Rather than using words like strategy, we need to demonstrate strategy. We look to hire highly intelligent people who can talk business and affect the business.
The competition is fierce and every dollar counts. The potential customer base is incredibly demanding. As advertising and PR continue to morph into one, we need to continue to create campaigns which are multi-platform – because stories come to life through multi-channels. The days of relying on one channel of distribution are long gone.
In the end, we need to think and act like business leaders. Understanding our client’s business extremely well and strategizing/executing based on their business objectives is the
Employee turnover is always a challenge as well. We spend a lot of time thinking about this. Offering our employees a healthy work/life balance is so important.
We have formed a think tank and have invited our employees to join this group, which allows them to take part in thought leadership on ethics (focused in technology and healthcare).
Our senior team leaders are always walking the floors, talking to employees at all levels, and making sure their ideas are heard and considered.

Do you feel like our city is a good place for businesses like yours?
I’ve been here since the day Racepoint was born. We were a small shop which has grown and become one of the leading global, integrated agencies in the world. Between small and successful, it’s been quite a ride. We’ve witnessed the economic downfall of 2008, the truly global rise of China, among many other things. But Boston has proved to be a power city – and there is a reason why we chose this great city as the agency headquarters.
Every day, innovation continues to evolve in this hub. Boston is the ideal jumping off point which allows us to expand into other innovation hubs across the globe. The future has never been brighter – seeing brands like GE move its headquarters to Boston, and brands like Amazon considering moving its HQ can only mean the future is bright for this great city.
We continue our commitment to opening offices in innovation capitals around the world. Racepoint Global most recently opened an office in Raleigh, NC (Research Triangle Park is home to some of the most innovative technology and healthcare brands in the world) and is now looking to open an office in Berlin, Germany in Q4 of 2017.
I love reinventing brands and reinventing strategy. There’s nothing more enjoyable and satisfactory (to me) than helping evolve the image of a brand and doing so by working with very intelligent, creative people who help our agency achieve a great level of credibility.
