Meet Sharon McEntee of Embody MedSpa

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sharon McEntee.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Sharon. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I have always been interested in skincare. Even as a child I was constantly creating facial masks and scrubs and doing treatments on my friends.

I received my aesthetic training at the Catherine Hinds Institute of Aesthetics in Woburn, MA. I’m also a graduate of the University of Miami with a Bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences and a concentration in pre-medical education. While earning my degree, I trained with a world-renowned cosmetic dermatologist and became obsessed with the field of medical aesthetics.

I spent 15 years working in medical spas and with prominent dermatology practices in both Miami and New England. My passion for the industry inspired me to fulfill my dream of becoming an entrepreneur and open Embody MedSpa in 2013.

My passion for aesthetics continues to grow every day with the development of my business. Even after being in the field for over 20 years, I can honestly say that I love what I do.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Opening a business is scary and overwhelming. I knew that I would make mistakes along the way. Luckily, most of the mistakes I made were minor, and even the bigger ones were manageable. I’ve learned a lot over the past 5 years and everything that has transpired has brought me to where I am today. Financial risks, marketing fails, employee management – these are all hard lessons to learn but also catalysts for growth.

There’s a quote by Brene Brown that I love, and I feel sums up business ownership: “You can choose courage, or you can choose comfort. But you can’t choose both.”

Please tell us about Embody MedSpa.
We are a full-service medspa and a premier destination for medical grade skincare, our philosophy is to always offer cutting-edge treatments with proven results by highly trained professionals in a safe and effective manner.

We don’t “sell” services or products – we educate clients on the best treatments and homecare for their needs and concerns.

We establish treatment plans that are goal oriented and customized for each client. The staff at Embody is meticulous in every service offered, and safety is our top priority. While we pride ourselves on offering a relaxing spa experience, our goal is to treat the clients’ concerns. By being honest, ethical, and results-driven we are able to develop trusting relationships that keep our clients loyal.

I am most proud of our client retention rate, as it speaks volumes about our competence and professionalism. While the industry standard is about 30-40%, we maintain a retention rate of over 80%. The majority of our clients have been with us for over 4 years and with me personally for over 10 years.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would have had more confidence in myself as a business owner. I was so hesitant to make any decisions on my own during the first couple of years, which is strange since I’ve always been very decisive both professionally and personally. I believed that all successful small business owners had more knowledge and experience starting out than I did. What I found out was that everyone feels that way in the beginning and continues to learn and grow each day.
