Meet Douglas & Viktoriya Anastasia of VinKari Safari

Today we’d like to introduce you to Douglas & Viktoriya Anastasia.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Douglas. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
We started out visiting other play areas once our 1st child, our son Vincent was crawling. They were ok, but he couldn’t do much, they were mostly for bigger children. Shortly after, about halfway through my MBA I took an elective in Entrepreneurship. The assignment was to create a business plan, so I chose to research and open an indoor playground. I started visiting more and more playgrounds and reading more about other famous business entrepreneurs; the research was so interesting that I actually switched concentrations in the MBA program, to Entrepreneurship. I searched for over a 3 year period to find the location that best matched our needs and vision. When we opened, my son was 4 years old and my daughter Karina was just crawling. So we set out to create clean play space for crawlers, toddlers, and Pre-K/Kindergarten aged children. We won Best Indoor Playground our 1st year open from the Boston Parents Paper.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It’s been relatively smooth in hindsight. We are family owned and operated, plus we all live together, so that can be stressful sometimes. Keeping everything clean is the biggest challenge.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
We are a young children’s indoor play space. We try to offer the cleanest, safest, most fun, most convenient, most innovative, competitively priced indoor play option around. I am proud that we have not strayed from our original vision. “Keep it cleaner than any other play space, and they will come.” We work long, hard ours to keep things clean, the playspace, the toys, the bathrooms, we rotate the toys as often as possible, the second it breaks, it’s gone. Hand sanitizers all over the place, and avoid toys that cannot be kept clean all the time, like ball pits, et cetera.

What were you like growing up?
Kind, considerate, pretty organized, constantly re-arranging my room, changing the angles. I was into sports, leadership. Still very empathetic, to a fault sometimes. Very tenacious.
