Today we’d like to introduce you to Dan Schorr.
Vice Cream is all about unapologetic indulgence with their eight super premium flavors and tagline “Live Life, Dig In.” When Vice Cream Founder Dan was in college, he paid for school by driving a Good Humor ice cream truck during the summer. It was during those hot summer months that he saw first-hand the joy ice cream could bring people. Years later in 2015, life threw him a curveball when doctors told him he had cancer – an aggressive form of lymphoma. After undergoing treatment that included chemotherapy at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, he beat the disease and made a decision to not just live life, but indulge in it, which led him to create Vice Cream in Boston. To him , ice cream is, and always should be, about unapologetic indulgence.
Through the “Nice Vice” program, Vice Cream aims to bring smiles to cancer patients and their families by supporting various cancer charities nationwide, and events like the Jimmy Fund Scooper Bowl, Pan-Mass Challenge and sampling Vice Cream at hospitals.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I wouldn’t say “struggles,” per se. I prefer the word opportunities! There are a few – managing growth, funding (every entrepreneur has funding on the mind) and keeping the Vice Cream brand clear and authentic even during times of huge growth.

Vice Cream can now be found by the pint in over 2,500 stores in the Northeast, mid-Atlantic and South since the company was founded just over a year ago in June 2016 after I won a battle with cancer – an aggressive form of lymphoma. That battle led me to the decision to not just live life, but indulge in it, and Vice Cream was created. We were getting tired of seeing so-called ice cream companies boasting about high-protein, low-fat and dairy-free ice cream. You have to Live Life. We take great pride in being the most decadent ice cream company out there, and we’re not shying away from the ingredients and delicious inclusions we use to make our ice cream the best.
We are proud of not only our fantastic ice cream, our sense of humor as a brand, but also the very important “Nice Vice” program. Vice Cream aims to bring smiles to cancer patients and their families by supporting various cancer charities nationwide and sampling at hospitals.
What were you like growing up?
I grew up in a typical middle class home. I have fond memories from my modest childhood. For example, I remember being thrilled when my dad bought me a video game when they first came out. That was a huge treat for me. I try to teach my own young daughter about hard work and gratitude.
