Today we’d like to introduce you to Jose De Andrade.
Jose, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
It was few years back and my wife and I were going through tough financial times, I worked at a pizza shop and always wanted to work in the construction industry, but as many people are, I was afraid to start on something new, was afraid to get out of my comfort zone, but I decided that I would get a job in the field, learn and have my own business, I did not want to keep on not earning enough to support my wife and help other in need, so I start in the construction and it was very difficult to carry materials, deal with dust and weather challenges, I started in the masonry field and 11 months later was in a partnership with a more experienced business owner, for the next year I learned to manage the business, as also was going to business training in Florida and California, then I left the partnership in 2015 to start Stone Specialists, which provides Masonry, Hardscape, Landscape and now general contracting services.
I do work hard and always provide the best in quality to my customers, growing at a rate of 70-100% in the past 3 years, all that I believe that is due to hard work, honesty, and great work as 95% of our jobs comes through referrals and we work mostly direct with homeowners. I never forget the people along the way that helped me and pushed me to grow, especially in the hard times my wife and in the business side my Cousins Fabio and Francis, as well as other people who I get inspired by.
Has it been a smooth road?
The bumps on the road serve to shape our growth, the most difficult challenge is to build a team that have the same mindset or that also want to grow with you, the other challenge are the voices inside your head, that always try to push you down, make you want to give up, the way I deal with it is that I don’t listen to negative thought and try to be away from negative people, if someone is not pushing me forward or inspiring me to make bold decisions they’re not contributing to me.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Stone Specialists story. Tell us more about the business.
We focus on residential Masonry and Hardscape projects and also renovations and additions. We are proud to build a business by referrals are thankful for the customers that call us again to do more projects.
We are different because we solve our customers’ needs, in any area of construction, if we cannot do a certain project we find someone to do it for them.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I see growth and challenges to be overcome, but I truly believe that passion for what you do and the desire to provide the quality our customers want will set us and any business apart, I also believe that competition makes us better and forces creativity.
