Today we’d like to introduce you to Brian Axelrod.
Brian, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
At an early age, I was introduced to organic fresh foods in their simplest form. My mother was going through breast cancer treatment so I quickly learned and became very interested in using food as a modality to heal from disease. Today, I’m every more passionate about creating special experiences revolving around our communities resilient food system.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been smooth, but it has been rich in lifelong lessons. I first started working in the beverage industry for 4 years. I co-founded a company that was very successful with sales and performance however, our payroll, rent and overhead was out of control. My partners and I decided to close that business back in 2016 because their hearts were not in it anymore. I now stand alone in this business adventure, however, I have a lot of experience I bring with me.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about The Farmacy – what should we know?
We are very niche for our area and being at the Innovation and Design Building gives us consistent traffic from people who work in the building. The Farmacy is an organic food cafe serving warm rice bowls, healthy salads, superfoods smoothies and other treats. People love our bowls and the fact that they can trust where our food is coming from. We bring the transparency to our customers and on our menu about where our food comes from and also how it’s prepared. Our whole menu is gluten free, and we have vegetarian & vegan options. I work in the cafe 3-4 times a week, I do bookkeeping, and business development when I’m not in the container. I’m most proud of the team we have. We have a great group of women who really care about what they do to every bowl prepared. Our marketing manager Holly has been leading our re-brand and is very talented when it comes to presentation and design. What sets us apart is our dynamic brand that is consistently trying to educate our customers about seasonal healthy foods and where they come from. This winter we will be serving cups of hot bone broth made with bone marrow and Bone College from grass fed/ pasture raised animals in New Hampshire. In addition to hot remedies like ginger, lemon and honey and a homemade fire tonic elixir. These are all drinks use to support the immune system and protect the thyroid.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Hard work. Consistency. Confidence in what is done. Having fun and enjoying what we do. Smiling.
