Today we’d like to introduce you to Sandy Butler.
Sandy, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have danced since I was 3 and always wanted to become a teacher. I decided to be a dance teacher because it is the best of both worlds…I get to teach and keep doing what I love.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The biggest struggle was trying to find a space that was big enough to accommodate the class sizes at an affordable price.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Danceworks – what should we know?
We take a different approach from the big dance factories in that within each class we teach 2 disciplines (tap and ballet) until age 6. At age 7 jazz is added for all students building well-rounded dancers rather than the a‘la carte methods other studio’s employ.
Our classes stay together through their years of training creating comradery and great friendships.
Bottom line for us is when you have happy kids dancing, you get recitals that people actually WANT to see!
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My family deserves credit as they help me with the studio…my son Derek created my website and maintains it, my daughter Jill teaches and helps with choreography and my husband Paul is a graphic artist so he assists with my recital tee shirt designs, program design, signs etc.
