Meet Greg Cooper of Greg M. Cooper Photography in Waltham

Today we’d like to introduce you to Greg Cooper.

Greg, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Grew up in California. Started taking photographs for my high school yearbook and newspaper. Worked for my University Newspaper with a focus on sports. Did an internship with The Reporter in Vacaville, CA. Upon graduation found an opportunity in Austria working for a sports picture agency called GEPA Pictures, now the largest agency in Austria. Traveled all over Europe while covering World Cup events. Moved to Boston in 1997. Turned to full time photography in 2001.

Have transitioned myself to do more commercial work while maintaining my editorial roots. Work for USA Today covering the major sport teams in Boston. Work directly for major fortune 500 companies in the Boston area photographing campaigns, construction documentation, aerial coverage and executive portraits.

Doing more and more long term time-lapse and drone work.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My biggest challenge has been separating yourself from the competition. Most of my clients are from a referral basis. I pride myself in building good customer relationships. If a potential client finds me on the web, I find they are just price shopping. I would rather speak with a potential client and really learn their needs rather than respond to an email.

Greg M. Cooper Photography – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
As a professional photography company, I do photography and video when requested. Editorial, commercial, event, construction documentary, portraits, time-lapse, aerial. Personal service is what sets us apart. I am proud to be making a living at what I love to do.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Cover shot on the front of GQ. Just finished a 26-month documentary of the restoration of the USS Constitution.
