Today we’d like to introduce you to Sandy Kelly.
Sandy, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I spent almost 10 years taking care of my mom who had Alzheimer’s and Dementia. I moved her in our home so she would have the support she needed. After she passed away, I found myself lost in the job market. So I created my own job.
I always loved doing crafts and knew that opening a shop that children can be creative with would be perfect for me.
Has it been a smooth road?
I have to say it’s been pretty smooth. Timing is everything. As long as we keep in a good time zone with each activity and don’t run behind. Running behind schedule is not fun. We get better and better with the more parties we do.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Sparkles Birthday Parties and More story. Tell us more about the business.
Sparkles is a Birthday Party Venue for Girls to celebrate their Special Day. We offer a two hour party package of your choice. Spa Party, Painting Party, Cupcake Decorating or a Craft Party. We try to pack in so much for the two hour party. The girls spend about an hour on their activity then we move over to the beautiful party table to enjoy Birthday Cake and ice cream and not to forget our sweet little tea cups with pink lemonade. We follow this up with some karaoke and a favorite of course is our nail polish station. We also do a Moms Nite Out. Those are so fun and enjoyed by everyone.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
We can only get better. I’m always thinking of new craft activities that I can do with the kids. Soooooo many ideas to come.
