Today we’d like to introduce you to Becky Chambers.
Becky, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I am a natural health practitioner and one of the most experienced and knowledgeable educators and providers of whole body vibration (WBV) in the USA. My company, Vibrant Health, strives to bring WBV to the millions of people worldwide who could use the incredible benefits of this revolutionary exercise system. I got into WBV seventeen years ago because of my own health issues, when WBV was still nearly unheard of here in the Northeast. After a lifetime of struggling with my many difficult health issues I was impressed with its dramatic ability to help. I was filled with a determination to bring WBV to as many people as I could.
Best known for its workout effect, where ten minutes of exercising on a powerfully vibrating plate gives you the benefits of one hour of conventional weight lifting, WBV has many other benefits as well. Thousands of research studies over the last fifty years have shown benefits for strengthening muscle, bone, tendons, improving balance, joint health, and aiding in weight loss. There are so many benefits! Like exercise, WBV also increases circulation, bringing nutrients and oxygen to cells and removing waste products, helping all parts of our bodies function at their best. WBV is a powerful detox system – as muscle fibers tensing and relaxing massage our lymph system, our major waste removal system. WBV raises important hormone levels (testosterone, human growth hormone) which give us energy, zest for life, and rejuvenation. And for the nervous system, there are dramatic benefits including raising the levels of the neurotransmitters serotonin and norepinephrine, which leads to rapid improvements in mood, sleep, and energy levels, and long-term benefits for the health of the brain and nervous system.
In my quest to spread the story of WBV I have given many radio and TV interviews, written articles for magazines, and developed an extensive website. I have also written two books on the subject. The first, Whole Body Vibration: The Future of Good Health, has been the best-selling book on the subject since it came out in 2013. The second book, Homeopathy Plus Whole Body Vibration, explores the synergistic combination of homeopathy, a system of energy medicine, and WBV. Recently, I returned from a five-month tour of the USA promoting WBV in expos, shows, and bookstore events.
There is a great need for education about this booming system as there is much confusion about the many different options and types of vibration, and how to use it. Like any powerful system that affects every part of our bodies it should be used with knowledge and care for the best results.
I am excited to have recently developed my own WBV machines, using my years of experience with many different machines. Vibrant Health machines are designed to bring the very best of WBV to a wide range of people at an affordable price. I believe WBV, with its enormous benefits for a stressed and busy world, should be as common as cell phones – everyone should have one!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No, this journey has not been a smooth road at all! It is difficult to bring anything, but especially something so revolutionary as WBV, to people who have never heard of it. One of the biggest problems is that WBV is almost too good! Ten minutes working out gives you the benefits of one hour? And many other benefits? – it sounds, at first, too good to be true – but it is – thousands of research studies support the benefits, and millions of people worldwide are now using WBV and reporting great improvements in their health and wellbeing.
But, it was very difficult when I first started. The machines then were very expensive (my first machine cost $10,000) as well as unknown, all of which, naturally made it almost impossible to sell one no matter how enthusiastic I was. Now, prices have come down, which helps a lot, but there is a huge range of types of machines as well as cost which creates a lot of confusion in the marketplace – which machine should you buy? What is the best type of vibration and how should you use it? There are many questions and everybody has a different answer! My focus is on education and trying to bring the best type and experience of WBV to as many people as I can.
I struggled for many years, and to be honest I made very little money for the first ten years or so. But I didn’t give up because I knew WBV was extraordinarily valuable, and that eventually it would be very big. I also have had crucial help along the way, people who believed in me and the value of what I was doing. Their support and advice was extremely valuable and I am grateful. I’ve always felt that one of my biggest talents is recognizing the best in others, and creating a team effort.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
What makes my business so unique is my knowledge and experience with WBV, as a natural health practitioner and a person who has dealt with numerous health issues myself. WBV was originally developed for Olympic athletes and cosmonauts in Russia 50 years ago, but most of us are not highly trained and fit young people. Using WBV with an older, less fit and healthy population, is a very different situation.
While WBV has many health benefits for people, it is a very powerful system that effects virtually every organ system in the body. As such, it is surprisingly easy to overdo it and stress your system with too much WBV, which can cause a health issue to temporarily worsen instead of improving. I always urge people to start slow with WBV, with even just one minute if your health is not strong, and increase slowly. It is human nature to think that if something is good, then more of it should be even better, but this is not true with WBV – in this case, the best approach is “less is more!”
There are two major types of motions produces by vibration machines: vertical vibration and oscillation vibration. Vertical vibration is where the entire plate moves up and down in a rapid and uniform way across the whole plate. Standing on this type of plate sends a vibration throughout your whole body that feels something like a big cat purring.
Oscillation machines have a plate that rises and falls across a fulcrum in the middle of the plate, so that the plate moves like a child’s seesaw. This creates a vibration as your body adjusts to one foot rising while the other is descending. You can get a large range of motion for a low price with these machines, but because they have such a wild motion they run at much slower speeds than vertical vibration – typically 0-20 vibration per second, versus 25-50 vibration per second for vertical vibration.
Another key difference between machines is the number of motors producing the vibration. Some companies use a two-motor system to achieve more power (a bigger amplitude of vibration), but two motors can never be properly synchronized. As a result, when you stand on a two-motor system, you and your brain can become desynchronized over time. This desynchronization can lead to negative side effects, such as, fatigue, muscle weakness, sleep disturbances and even immune system imbalance. As I said, more power is not necessarily a good thing with WBV!
To make things more complicated, many companies have come up with different names for the two basic motions, based on slight variations in the movement of the plate, such as three-dimensional, horizontal, spiral, circular, tri-planar, triangular, tri-phasic, multidimensional, Omni flex, piston, and pivotal.
I sell and recommend only single motor vertical vibration, as it is the best for most people. This type of vibration delivers a gentler, but still very effective and powerful dose of all the good benefits of vibration, with less stress to the body and mind. Using a one motor WBV system always delivers a 100% synchronized vibration and message to your brain and body, helping your system to be in its optimal functioning state.
As you can see, there is a lot of confusing but important information involved.
What were you like growing up?
There were great things and very difficult things in my childhood; together they have let to the challenges and success in my life. I was very lucky to have a privileged upbringing where I had an excellent education, my physical needs met, and a loving family. I was reasonably active as a child but I was also developing health issues from an early age. I had chronic severe depression for thirty years starting at a very young age, which led to low self-esteem, insecurity, and eventually an eating disorder. This led to weighing 200 pounds by my early twenties, disabling joint and nerve problems, major digestive and immune system issues, becoming allergic to hundreds of foods and pollens (I was called a “universal reactor”), and numerous other disabling health issues.
Because of pain and disability, I was forced to focus on health and healing, but I have always loved the miracle of the human body and the natural world, so it was almost a blessing in disguise. Searching and studying for many years, I learned about all sorts of methods of natural health. I eventually healed all of my health issues using, most importantly, whole body vibration, nutrition, and homeopathy. I am now physically and emotionally healthy; fit, active, happy, creative, resilient, involved in work I love, and in a position to help many other people. It was a very difficult path, but I feel blessed and thrilled to be where I am now.
